Hand Arthritis in San Diego, CA

From the Greek for joint (arthro) and inflammation (-itis), arthritis is common ailment.  Hand arthritis has multiple origins: 1. Recent or remote injury (post-traumatic arthritis) 2. Wear and tear (degenerative arthritis) 3. Inflammatory conditions which affect the joints (rheumatoid arthritis, connective tissue disorders, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, gout and others). Treatment is therefore important to alleviate the progression of this condition.

Arthritis involving the hand and arm can cause pain, stiffness, weakness and deformity which can affect the performance of athletes, musicians, and workers.  Progression can even affect daily activity and interrupt sleep. Treatment, like for severe knee and hip arthritis, can even include joint replacement.  Treatment options will be discussed at your office visit. Dr. Balourdas will recommend a personalized approach related to your specific needs.   Find links to the most common hand arthritis conditions below.
